Original MusicMedieval and fantasy images and stories can inspire us in the context of modern life. They evoke a time when life, though “nasty, brutish and short”, is also primal, heroic and full of mystery. My musical composition seeks to bring listeners to the same spirit. My music is strongly influenced by the medieval music which has survived from the time, as well as more recent musical sounds.
I have written music for television, plays and films. I also write for choirs, instrumental groups and for computer games. I hope you will enjoy the music I have made available through this site and through my youtube channel. If you would like to buy recordings of my compositions, have me write music for a film, computer game etc. or commission me to write a composition for a specific event such as a wedding, there are details elsewhere on this site. You can also contact me. (ORDERING available now) This is a collection of eighteen pieces I have composed using authentic medieval English texts whose original music has not survived, on love, death, politics and drinking as well as Christmas and Easter carols. Thirteen works are recorded on the newly released CD. Full details of this set of works is available on the New Medieval Songs page. You can also see and hear some being performed on this site and on youtube. Original Music: Other WorksI have published a collection of other works as Modern Medieval Music (Vol 1). These include a number of pieces written to words taken from the Middle English Wyclif bible, including a Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis. A number have been recorded and you can hear them using the music player at the top right of this page. Original Music: Dance arrangementsMany of the surviving Renaissance and Medieval dances have reached us with just a single line of music. I have arranged over fifty such dances for multiple parts. These arrangements have been published in Del’s Dance Book, sometimes under the pseudonym Geoffrey of Exeter. I’ve also published them below – all of the arrangements are free use for non-profit. If you’d like to use them as part of a profit-making endeavour, contact me. Other music: TranscriptionsOver the years, i've also transcribed a significant amount of music for performers. So others can use it, I've made it available here through the website - all of it is completely free use for either profit or non-profit purposes. I've also contributed them to the Choral Public Domain Library. |
